Remember running and screaming from your playground mates as they tried to touch you?
Okay, that came out sort of wrong. What I was trying to do was inspire memories of the beloved childhood game: tag. This post is sort of like tag for bloggers. There have been a few Meme’s making the rounds in the blogosphere lately and although I was tagged by a couple of savy writers for the Lucky 7 one, I don’t have a page 77 yet in my current WIP so couldn’t participate. But, when the lovely Lynnette Burrows tagged me with the 11 question game, I realized all the running and screaming was over and I am now the one to be feared on the playground….bahahaha!
The rules for 11 Questions:
1. You must post the rules. 2. Answer the questions on your blog. Create eleven new questions to ask the people you’ve tagged. 3. Tag eleven people and link to them. 4. Let them know you’ve tagged them.
Whew! I think this is burning as many calories as chasing people. *glancing at snack* I could be wrong.
Her questions, my answers:
1. What book or series can you read over and over again without getting bored?
Really, anything written by Margaret Atwood. I read her books over and over just for the pure pleasure of studying her way with words. Of course, lately the books I’ve read over and over again are my boys’ current favorites: “Stellaluna” and “Are You My Mother”. Children’s books never get old!
2. What TV show character do you hate and why?
This one stumped me. I like all the characters in the shows I watch: Fringe, The Mentalist, Being Human, Psyche. Even the villians are likeable. Guess that says good things about the writers!
3. If you were a super hero, what is your super hero name and your special power?
I’d be the pet whisperer and I’d be able to talk to animals.
4. What is your favorite ear worm (song that gets stuck in your head)?
“Oh I wish I were an Oscar Meyer Weiner…that is what I’d truly like to be…” (You’re welcome)
5. If you could be any character of the opposite sex in any story, who would you be and why?
Aidan from Being Human. Why? Because I’d be a hot, sexy vampire for eternity. Plus, bonus–I could see myself sans shirt whenever I wanted!
6. What was the worst job you’ve ever had and why?
Working in a department store. The epitome of boredom.
7. What was your favorite TV show when you were growing up?
The Lone Ranger. Which, I was excited to learn is being made into a movie starring Johnny Depp. My second favorite was Scooby Doo. Which kinda explains why I write mysteries and have a dog that looks like this:
8. What mode of transportation (horse, automobile, bus, train, boat, airplane, space plane, etc.) would you never want to use and why?
Any mention of transportation gets me excited (especially now that I’m working on my fear of flying) because I immediately start thinking about all the cool places I would travel to. Though, I don’t think I’d enjoy being in a submarine. Encased in metal, tight spaces, emersed in water. *shudder* Is it getting hot in here?
9. What job/occupation would you never want to try?
Working in any kind of chocolate factory. It would mean sure death from a sugar coma. Or anything to do with public speaking. Or spiders.
10. If you could tweet a warning or encouragement to one person in history, what would you tweet to whom and why?
my tweet: @aynrand For the luv of all that’s holy, don’t let them grant movie rights to your novels. Love, a concerned fan.
11. Tell us about one thing on your bucket list.
Okay. I want to spend the night in a really haunted house or hotel (or European castle…what? A girl can dream) with the Ghost Hunters team…including their ghost busting dog, Maddie.
AND…as I am late to play, I have seen most of you answer your own 11 questions already so to I’m going to be a rebel and just ask questions here for whoever stops by to answer in the comments. Answer either or both & thanks for playing!
What is your favorite childhood memory?
Do you believe in ghosts? Why or why not?
Great answers, Shannon! I could totally see you as a pet whisperer. 🙂 I believe in ghosts, but not in the stereotypical way. We all have “ghosts” in our lives…and I believe that there’s more to the earthly world than what we can see and hold.
Totally agree, August. We can’t even see all the spectrums of light! It blows my mind.
Shannon, thanks for playing! Love your answers – especially the tweet to Ann Rand. LOL. Yes, I believe in ghosts because I, too, believe there is more to the world than what we can see. I also believe that there are simply things we can not or do not yet understand.
Thanks for er…making me 🙂 Have you seen Atlas Shrugged? Yikes. Low budget, bad actors…sigh.
Loved your answers, Shannon.
I can never pin down a favorite childhood memory. I really think about it too. I have a lot, which is a blessing. I loved playing make-believe stuff. Having a 2-person parade down my street with my best friend, twirling batons, wearing boots and a bikinis. (we were about 7) haha
Ghosts? Yes, absolutely! I can feel them in places, like an energy or something. Also, I know for a fact that my beloved and adored dalmatian, Sebastian, who lived 13 1/2 years, comes and checks in on us at home. Thank goodness because I miss him too!
Sounds like you had a creative, free childhood…love it! And your Sebastian checking in on you made me smile. Have you watched that new show, Long Island Medium? She had her dog at a dogpark and she told this lady that her dog was coming through and wanted to give her a message. I seriously bawled through that whole show…it was great!
Shannon I think we have similar fears–the flying and yes you made me shudder too, the submarine. Yikes.
But I don’t want to spend any time in a haunted place. I guess I believe in ghosts because that is too scary. Or else I’ve just seen Poltergeist too many times 🙂
And Your dog is so cute!
Thanks for playing, Coleen! I have no idea why the idea of ghosts doesn’t scare me, I’m such a wimp in other areas of life. And Abbey says thanks for the compliment 🙂
Hi Shannon, loved your answers. Ok, favorite childhood memory: Sitting under a spruce tree watching the snow fall just at dusk. I could see the lights on the village houses, the smoke rising from the chimneys, and I was at peace.
Ghosts? Of course, I’ve spoken with too many of them not to believe. Most are more afraid of us than we are of them.
Wow, you were a very deep child, Prudence. Lovely! You should do a post on your experiences with ghosts!
Love getting to know you better Shannon! Your answers rocked! Most of my fav childhood memories involve our family camping trips. Dad would find some god forsaken lake and we’d load up the car in an attempt to find it…those trips/weekends were the BEST!!!
Hi, Natalie! Thanks for the visit! I’m glad to hear that camping trips were a good memory for you, we’re about to start doing this to…er, I mean with our twins this summer.
Always a fun game to play. I’ve enjoyed reading everyone’s posts, answers and questions. I loved watching the Lone Ranger too!
I’ll play along here:
What is your favorite childhood memory? When I was a child I was a real finicky eater. One night at dinner my mother would not let me leave the table until I cleaned my plate. I had already eaten all of my meat and vegetables but I just could not finish my baked potato. When she got up to take some dirty dishes to the kitchen, my dad speared my potato with his fork and stuffed the whole thing into his mouth, then held a finger up to his lips. When my mom came back to the table she said, “okay, you may be excused now.” Not sure why that has stuck with me all these years, but there you have it. My dad. My hero.
Do you believe in ghosts? Why or why not? Sure. I believe ghosts are angels and they are everywhere. I would have been dead a long time ago when I lost control of my car on an icy road near the 10,000 foot summit. I am convinced that an angel was pushing my car away from that ledge and that is the only reason I did not go over. I also believe there are ghosts with bad intentions. Those are the ones that usually materialize. Them and the poor lost souls who can’t leave this world for some unfinished business reason.
Thanks for sharing yourself with us a little bit.

What an awesome Dad you’ve got 🙂 And woah! What a terrifying experience, glad you’re still with us.
Okay, you hooked me good with that chasing around trying to touch each other line. Why is it that something as simple as tag was so much fun!
Adorable picture of Abby, and yes she does look like Scooby Do.
Favorite memory: For some reason what came to mind (probably because of the tag game idea) was playing touch football with my older brother and his friends. It was so cool to be accepted by the big kids. Then the kid next door got carried away and tackled me–almost squished me into the ground–and my brother beat him up (not badly). I’ve got a great big bro!
Ghosts: Oh, yes. My grandmother hung out at her old house for several years after she passed away. We became convinced it was for real when someone who had never known her saw the ghost and described her to us. It was our Granny alright. I think ghosts mostly hang around because of the unfinished business issue. My brother’s first marriage was in trouble when my grandmother died. She stopped showing up after he remarried several years later.
Thanks, Shannon, for the chance to stop and play for a little while.

Ha! Love that you’re brother is so protective. And apparently, so is your Granny! I guess she approves of his new wife, that should make her feel good. 🙂
Shannon, so glad that you could play this game. Awesome answers! I especially like your answer to #2 and your dog of course! 🙂
It was great to see you answer Lynette’s questions. She tagged me too 🙂
“Plus, bonus–I could see myself sans shirt whenever I wanted!” This one made me laugh.
Favorite childhood memory: No single memory comes up as the very best but I’ll always remember the times I spent with my grandma and grandpa before he died. Grandma had lovely old dresses in her closet and and I was always trying them on and pretending I was a character from a fairytale or a book.
Ghosts: I have never seen one and no one close to me has either. But I’m willing to believe that they could exist as there are so many ghost stories from all around the world.
That’s wonderful that your grandparents were such a big part of your childhood. Sounds like you were a creative soul even back then. 🙂
My dog could be your dog’s twin!
Really? What kind of dog is yours?
I love your superhero answer, Shannon. 🙂
My favorite childhood memory is… childhood. That’s why I refuse to grow up. As to ghosts, I’m undecided about that. I tend not to, but then there are some weird unexplained phenomena people in my own family have experienced, so I can’t dismiss the idea outright. But ghosts that haunt houses, that sort of ghost… nope.

Thanks for stopping by, Jon! No haunted houses, eh? 🙂
